NSF EPSCoR Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) announces the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Summer 2023 and Academic Year 2023-2024 Scholarships to promote undergraduate research. The program is supported by funding from the Nevada NSF EPSCoR Harnessing the Data Revolution for Fire Science (HDRFS) project. Students working in any STEM discipline or addressing STEM-related issues are eligible, but at least 50% of the proposals will be awarded to projects that support the research themes of the HDRFS project.

Focus: The UROP program promotes intensive undergraduate research opportunities for NSHE students. Through these research experiences, our goal is to enhance the recruitment and retention of undergraduates in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines, particularly those related to fire science.

Important: Past recipients of an NSF-EPSCoR undergraduate research scholarship under the current HDRFS award are not eligible to apply, UNLESS the research project is tied to the NSF EPSCoR HDRFS project. Applicants selected for this award may receive ONE undergraduate research scholarship for either Summer 2023 or Academic Year 2023-2024. You may apply for the Summer, the Academic year, OR if you do not have a strong preference, indicate both programs and, if selected, you will be assigned to either the Summer or Academic Year program.

Students working in areas of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM), except for medical sciences, are eligible. Fields related to fire science areas: 1) Ecology, 2) Hydrology, 3) Fire Processes; and 4) Fire Emissions and their Atmospheric Aging are of special interest. Students with research tied to medical sciences are encouraged to apply for the National Institutes of Health IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (NIH INBRE).
