Workshop: Preparing to Apply to Medical School

From the UNLV School of Medicine, Dr. Anne Weisman, Director of Wellness and Integrative Medicine, and Benita Wolff, Director of Diversity and Inclusion, will facilitate a roundtable discussion with students on the following topics:

– Tips for becoming a well-rounded applicant
– Importance of being resilient
– Tips for having fun and managing stress as a pre-med student

Information will be provided for students interested in applying to all medical schools and programs, including the UNLV School of Medicine. All are welcome!

Workshop: Involving Undergraduates in Research

This workshop is open to faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students.

Attendees will hear from faculty and their students who will discuss how they have successfully integrated undergraduate students into their research projects. The panel of faculty researchers includes Dr. Josh Baker (Educational & Clinical Studies), Dr. Matthew Bernacki (Educational Psychology & Higher Education), and Dr. Rachael Robnett (Psychology).

Don Asher Graduate School Application Boot Camp

Mr. Asher is one of the nation’s foremost authorities on the graduate admission process. Hundreds of thousands of students have seen his lectures, tapes, and teleconferences. He is the author of twelve books, including “Graduate Admission Essays, the best-selling guide to the graduate admissions process”, and “The Best Scholarships for the Best Students”.

The intensive two-day workshop will focus on strategies to help students gain admission to highly competitive graduate programs. Sample topics include:
• Identifying graduate programs in your discipline
• Writing an effective personal statement
• Approaching the GRE
• Finding funding (NOT LOANS!)
• Selecting a faculty mentor

The event takes place Thursday, July 13 and Friday, July 14, 2017 on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

UROP Application Writing Workshops Available!

Students applying for the NSF EPSCoR UROP scholarship are strongly encouraged to participate in the Application Writing Workshop. The workshop is presented in three sessions at different NSHE campuses around the state. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in each of the three sessions. Faculty interested in or committed to mentoring a research undergraduate should attend Session 1.
