BuG ReMeDEE Summer Undergraduate Research Experience

Building Genome-to-Phenome Infrastructure for Regulating Methane in Deep and Extreme Environments (BuG ReMeDEE) is an interjurisdictional research & educational program for creating awareness about greenhouse gases. It is a platform to provide young minds to come and learn the basic tools and techniques of microbial genome editing and analyzing their phenotypes. The BuG ReMeDEE Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) will provide students with an opportunity to study microbes from extreme environments of 4850-ft deep mine & Yellowstone National Park before presenting their work at a state-wide conference.

Projects and training on Genome Editing, Data Mining, Microbial Fuel Cells, Machine Learning, Nanotechnology, Protein Engineering.

BuG ReMeDEE SURE activities are supported by NSF RII Track-2 FEC (#1736255)

REU Site: Mechanisms of Evolution

The REU Site: Mechanisms of Evolution is accepting applications. This NSF supported program provides students with an opportunity to perform independent research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Participants receive a $5,750 stipend ($575 per week), travel subsidy and complimentary housing in a UNLV dormitory. Students from underrepresented groups and from academic institutions with limited research opportunities, including two-year colleges, are strongly encouraged to apply.

The program dates are May 30 to August 3, 2018. The application deadline is Saturday April 7, 2018.

A complete application includes a one-page career essay, transcripts and one letter of recommendation.

REU in Collaborative Human Robot Interaction

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno is offering a NSF-supported 10-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Collaborative Human-Robot Interaction (CHRI). The site will develop new autonomous robot capabilities and supporting network and data science technology to address real-world challenges of operating autonomous systems in hospital, clinic, home, and infrastructure environments.

In addition to participating in a hands-on orientation week, students will also participate in workshops on how to write an application for graduate school and how to write an application for a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF). Students will participate in a research project, prepare a written report on their project, and present to the University’s undergraduate research symposium.

Award Information:
* $5,000 stipend for 10 weeks
* On-campus housing provided
* Food allowance
* Round-trip travel expenses up to $800

CIMM Research Experience for Undergraduates

The Consortium for Innovation in Manufacturing and Materials (CIMM) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) project is a nine- or ten-week summer program where students work collaboratively on topics related to advanced manufacturing and materials research. CIMM research addresses the scientific and technological barriers relevant to two broad classes of manufacturing methods: (1) Multi-scale forming and replication for high-throughput manufacturing and (2) 3-D Laser-based Printing for adaptive manufacturing. Students will be integrated into ongoing research projects in state of the art facilities in an environment of peer and interinstitutional mentoring and collaboration.

Each student will receive a $500/week stipend, free housing in university residence halls (if needed), and up to $400 travel expense reimbursement. For more information and to apply, please visit the website below. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2018.

Summer 2017 and 2017-2018 Academic Year UROP Scholarships

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) announces the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Summer 2017 AND 2017-2018 Academic Year Scholarships to promote undergraduate research.

The UROP program promotes intensive undergraduate research opportunities for university students. Through these research experiences, our goal is to enhance the recruitment and retention of undergraduates in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines, particularly those related to solar energy and its effects on water resources and the environment in general.

Note – Students with research tied to medical sciences are encouraged to apply for the National Institutes of Health IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (NIH INBRE). For more information, visit http://www.unr.edu/inbre
